Rating First of all, I want to say that the quality of doievs published with this software is amazing! Also, I want to say that my purchase was worth the price. I bought VideoStudio 11.5 Plus for about 50 dollars for my Windows XP Inspiron 8600 and my Windows XP with Vista and it was a great buy, and produces EXCELLENT quality doievs. Now, as for the program itself, there are bugs. And help is slow, or non-existant. The first problem I had with VS was that it wouldn't install automatically on my Windows XP, so I had to do the manual installation, which wasn't hard, but sometimes I couldn't even do the manual install because the computer would not find or read the disc when I put it in. Other times, Installation went perfectly, and setup was automatic, with no choppy sounds during installation. To manually install I put the disc in, went to My Computer and you right-click on the disc Icon, click explore, and click on the Auto-Run Icon, or Ulead Icon, then, Setup for installation will follow. I should also mention that at those times when installation did not work, restarting the computer, or re-inserting the disc did not work most of the time, and I found that leaving the computer off for a couple of minutes and trying the installation later would serve more a efficient method. However, I didn't have the same problem installing it on my Vista. The program would run itself automatically for setup. And I had no concerns during the installation. Another, which would occur is that when I open the program I will see white boxes with X's on them, under the the Video Tab (an alternate location in the program itself, where doievs can be stored for easy access instead of loading it from somewhere else on the computer) where the thumbnails for my saved doievs would usually be. And some of the video clips I saved for editing were unaccessible. The program would then cease to repond, and close itself upon notifying me of its error. Again, closing the program and shutting off the computer for a few minutes, or a restart would be needed for the program to go back to normal. Finally, I found it extremely helpful to use the repair option (available by selecting the Ulead software under the Add/Remove programs option in the control panel) if these quick fixes don't do the job. It's faster then reinstalling the entire software, and it works. Aside from these two very rare (only happened once each) problems, the only common program I found is that it does not work well on a slow computer, so it is reccomended that your computer have a good amount of free Gigabytes (although it's not necessary if your computer works up to speed, but mine doesn't so I had to do some cleaning up) to work with and rid your computer of programs that slow it down. Right-click on your hard drive, and click on properties to find your free space versus used space. My computer gets slow sometimes when I'm on it for a long time, but mostly, it works seamlessly. The result is lagging of the actual software during editing -so much so that previewing doievs or music on the program, and clicking to specific timecodes take longer than normal. When this happens, my computer actually gets hot, and I just close the program and let it cool off and it goes back to good. Finally, this is not to exclude the normal (yes -normal) delay the program goes through between buttons. Yes, there is a short delay in clicking between buttons, and while it annoyed me initially, I got used to it as I worked with the program more and more. Small, but noteworthy detail. That's all of the bad now for the good!! What I like most about the program is that you can go to general parts on a clip, and then to very specific points from then on in a short amount of time. It has a frame by frame display of the video if you need it, called multi-trim . Where you use a dial to jog to a general area on the clip, and then you can use the timecode arrows to move along the clip more specifically. The timecode box displays Hours-Minutes-Seconds, and milliseconds. For this reason, Multi-Trim is my best friend when editing with Ulead, allowing speedy location to a part in a clip, to extract, or save parts of that clip for furthur editing. I love this feature because it just saves so much time. Other than that, it's got all the other features of your basic editor, with lots of transtitions, effects, and titles. Like other editors, you can also use images in your doievs or slideshows, and even create images from your video clips. You can find out more about all of the features of VS11.5 on the Ulead site -just go to the product's online manual. Overall, Video Studio comes with all the basics and more. The program is easy to use, with lots of customizable specifications, and provides high quality sound and video editing with the ability to publish HD DVD, AVC HD, and Blu-Ray Discs, as well as Tape, mobile devices, and Online sites. Storyboard, Timeline, and Audio view; Hundereds of effects, transitions, and templates; comes with audio filters, and audio editing tools; and even chroma key (blue/green screening) capability. It's compatible with DV, DVD, HDV, Hard Drive, and Analog Camcorders; VHS tapes and personal dvds; Pc's with Tuner Card, or Personal video recorders (dvd recorders);and digital camers and hand held devices such as iPod, PSP, Zune, and Mobile phones. Best of all, you can upload directly to Youtube, and other online sites without loosing the quality or sound of the video. Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus's strongest point is that it delivers High quality doievs, providing full-featured dvd authoring and editing for the Intermeadiate to Advanced user. It's both a powerful, and professional editor with the quality to back it up. Although it can be a little buggy at times, I was excited at the quality and the amount of features that came with it. And I was not surprized to learn that the origianl retail price of the software was over $139 USD!Great buy for the price! Get it!Author's edit:So, I've been using this product for a solid two years now, and after working with it and installing some patches from Corel, the program now has no problem installing with my Windows XP. I was notified by them and downloaded the patch fixes on their support site. It may have sounded like everything was going wrong in the beginning of my review -it wasn't- I only had problems installing and the software problem which wouldn't let me access files and closing on itself. Both of these were fixed after the update, and after reinstalling it I have had no further problems in the past two years.Still, the program has an inherent slowness or lag between buttons/actions, but with more free space, and less clutter on my machine, the program runs smoother and I'm able to edit with very little to no interuptions. Therefore, I retain my initial rating of 5/5 stars. Good job Corel.
